hey hiyo fam,
george here, one of the founders of hiyo back with another installment of to//from, a monthly letter from me to you keeping you up to date on the latest happenings in hiyo-land.
generally, these are meant to be retrospective of what has happened over the last 30 days, but today i’m looking forward.
as we roll into october, i want to extend an invitation—not a challenge, not a lecture—to try something that’s been meaningful for a lot of people: commit to sober october. this isn’t about asking you to drink more hiyo or shaming anyone’s choices. as evan always says, we’re not trying to “yuck anyone’s yum.” it’s much more about giving yourself the chance to see how you feel when alcohol isn’t part of your routine for 30 days.
i’ve always hoped that hiyo would help people live more balanced lives. for some, that balance means cutting alcohol completely. for others, it’s simply realizing that you don’t need that midweek glass of wine or that extra nightcap. the beauty of sober october is the confidence and perspective it lends—you get to prove to yourself that you’re capable of setting a goal and sticking to it, while also realizing you don’t need to drink to relax, unwind, or celebrate. and that sense of assuredness has a way of sticking around long after the month ends.
of course, going a month without alcohol isn’t always easy. social habits, routines, and little rituals can be hard to shift. but that’s where the opportunity lives—every skipped pour is a reminder that you’re in control, and every morning you wake up clear-headed is proof that you’re doing something good for yourself. it’s not about perfection; it’s about exploration, awareness, and giving your mind and body a reset.
so if you’re curious, consider joining us this october. swap your usual drink for something different, invite a friend to join you, and notice how you feel along the way. you may surprise yourself with how much lighter, clearer, or more grounded you feel—and even if you don’t continue cutting out alcohol entirely beyond october, you might carry forward a little more balance. here’s to giving ourselves the space to try something new.
here’s to balance, to health, and to living life with intention.
with you all the way,
george
